Robert Mosley has been drawing and painting for 35 years and has shown his work in galleries and open studios in London where he lived for 25 years before moving to North Yorkshire. He is now represented by Sliding Water in York.
Robert uses different mediums - charcoal, oil and ink. His bold gestural marks build up into works both figurative and non-figurative: sometimes minimal and sometimes detailed and layered.
Mosley's intensely interior, individuated image-making stems from doubt. He makes each drawn mark in profound uncertainty as to whether or how it may exceed abstract gesture and achieve figuration, often portraiture, or landscape, but always the image of some particular living being or scene of life. Nutured in charcoal, his processes of drawing translate to oils and inks.
