Johnny Sunter
Johnny is a multidisciplinary artist working in stone, collage, found objects and occasionally intaglio and relief printing.
His sculptural emphasis is stories, gods and monsters, and everything in-between, his works can be boisterous and impish, each has its own story to tell.
Drawings and models are important, but the realisation of the piece always evolves during the act of carving, looking and refining. He first captures them in a sketch, then works to release them in stone, sometimes utilising other materials. He’s interested in the form hidden in the block, not necessarily in the beauty of the stone itself. Occasionally Johnny includes steel, colour and other materials to convey elements where appropriate.
