Janie Stevens
Working with locally quarried stone and Zimbabwean stone, Janie celebrates the natural imperfections and anomalies that emerge through the sculpting process. Her approach is rooted in embracing asymmetry, roughness and irregularity, allowing the stone’s inherent character to shine through. By intentionally leaving forms open to interpretation, she invites viewers to connect with the work on their terms. With hand tools, she honours the natural process of expression, finding beauty in the unexpected and imperfect.
More recently she has expanded her artistic repertoire to include steel and aeroply, showcasing her versatility and innovative spirit. In this new medium, she produces rhythmic and organic sculptures that powerfully symbolize the circle of life.
