Fascination

29th August to 27th September 2026

11am to 4pm daily

Fascination showcases three York-based artist/makers each totally captivated by their chosen media, and the ideas and possibilities they generate. You are invited into their worlds through an exhibition of their work accompanied by insights into the intriguing processes behind the making.

Jacqueline Warrington - Silversmith

After initial training with jewellery designer Pamela Dickinson, Jacqueline studied at Bradford and Sheffield art colleges. Forty-two years later she is still happily working at the bench, designing and making both jewellery and silverware.

At Sheffield Jacqueline discovered chasing and repousse, an illustrative technique which she uses in the pieces displaying her interest in myths and legends. These silver ‘pictures’ or ‘icons’ are made from fine silver with 24 ct. gold detail. The gold is applied using the Korean technique of Keum Boo where the silver is heated then gold foil burnished on using an agate burnisher.

Richard Frost - Furniture Maker

For nearly three decades Richard built his career as a civil engineer—until he chose to follow the pull of his true passion: wood. He retrained in furniture design and making, blending the analytical mindset of an engineer with the imagination of an artist. In 2018, he founded Richard Frost Design, where he creates bespoke and limited‑edition furniture crafted with intention, individuality, and meticulous attention to detail.

Jane Blackman - Ceramicist

Jane's love of ceramics began after enrolling in evening classes followed by a diploma in ceramics, eventually graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1999.

Jane combines clay and her other passion - painting, to create three-dimensional paintings inspired by memories of environments and landscapes. Her particular interest is in the idea of the form as a frame for a painting on the internal surface. She constructs her pieces using a slabbing technique then paints expressively using slips, stains and oxides, enjoying mark-making , brush strokes and the serendipity of the firing process.
